The common myth that deleting the DPF and/or EGR to make power has gone on too long!

If you've been looking for ways to push your stock 2011 - 2016 LML with more horsepower, you have probably heard a lot of good information, but also a lot of misinformation. Most of the false things you'll hear are "the DPF will fail adding more power," or "More HP is going to clog the filter," and our favorite, "Deleted trucks get better MPGs!"  While you'll see these comments all over forums or on social media, there is simply no actual science or facts to back these claims.  So how much can your LML make? With tuning and a lift pump, you can expect over a truck with over 500 RWHP.

IT'S UNDERSTANDABLE WHY THE DPF SYSTEM IS HATED!

2011 - 2016 LML Duramax 520 RWHP Tune Only!

520 RWHP TUNE ONLY LML DURAMAX:

The 2011 - 2016 LML Duramax came rated at 395 horsepower and 765 ft/lbs of torque.  That seemed like an amazing amount of power when this model was first released but these days it is dwarfed by the available power of brand new trucks.

Furthermore, that whopping 395 HP is a peak power rating, meaning that you probably won't produce that much power during normal operations.  In fact, many owners complain that the power delivery of the stock tune is too soft. This is why custom tuning is so important for the LML Duramax.

Here are some of the things tuning your LML can help with:

  • Increased Peak Horse Power
  • Improved Shift Quality
  • LML Dead Pedal Resolution

Ever wonder what you need to push your stock truck to its limit?  We know the answer, and we created this article for you.  For 600-640 RWHP you will need to keep in mind all the supporting modifications you need to maintain reliability.

Custom tuning is going to ask your truck to perform at a higher level.  The same goes for upgrading your turbo, transmission, fuel system or any other performance orientate component.  The best way to maintain a moderate level of reliability while upgrading is to address these issues once and do it right!

Here is the list of what you need to make a reliable 600+ RWHP LML with a DPF still on it:

  • EZ Lynk AutoAgent 2.0 w/ Support Pack & LSP5 Switch
  • LML Stealth 64 Turbo
  • 10mm Cp4 Exergy Stroker Pump
  • DT550 Built Transmission

How To Go Further Between Regen!

You use your truck for daily commuting or hauling the family and trailer for a long weekend of camping,  you’re rolling up to your work or that campsite and you notice the LML go into regeneration (regen).  You can’t keep driving as you should because you got a job to do or things to unpack.  You can’t help but wonder what can be done to keep your LML from going into this cycle as often as it does, we’ll get into that in bit, first let’s look a little more at DPF regen.

The DPF takes essentially 700 miles or 18 hours of drive time to put it to the maximum values of normal calculated mass soot levels, which if you were curious is 44 grams.   Active Regen describes the procedure your truck goes through to burn that accumulated soot.  To do this, fuel is dosed through a 9th injector directly into your exhaust.  Many drivers have noticed a drop in MPG and even potentially a lack of power during regen.

Speak with a Diesel Performance Expert!

A popular theory is that if you go through regen less frequently, your MPGs will go up.  So, how can you go through less regens?

Do Your LML Tunes Protect You From High EGTs?

LML SPADE & Smart EGT Control:

Exhaust Gas Temperatures (EGTs) give you an insight as to how much stress you are putting your engine under.  It is the most accurate way to monitor if your current activity is safe for the engine.

In a factory tuned truck high EGTs would most commonly be a sign of a physical problem like a boost leak.  However, a tuner added to an aggressive driver could result in EGTs beyond the desired limit.

Most examples of this also include a mismatch of your tune level and truck operation.  Such as the guy towing in his race tune.

The LML SPADE by DuramaxTuner.com now includes a Smart EGT Control feature.

  • Let your tunes manage the EGTs so you can keep your eyes on the road
  • Have peace of mind that your truck is safe
  • Get the power you need from your truck without sacrificing reliability

What are some good upgrades if you are towing?

You bought your 2011 - 2016 Silverado HD with a Duramax to tow something with it.  It certainly is capable of performing well in completely stock trim.  Your truck has plenty of power to pull anything up to it's rated Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), it stops well and the ride quality is superb.

On the other hand, if you spend any length of time towing something you're bound to notice a few things that could be better. Furthermore, if you are towing for long distances, like a family vacation or for work, this LML Duramax engine has to be the most reliable vehicle you've ever owned.

COMMON QUESTIONS LML OWNERS ASK:

  • What aftermarket products help with towing?
  • How can you improve MPG while towing?
  • Is the LML a reliable truck to tow something with?

5 Things You Probably Didn't Know About The 2011-2016 Duramax EGR

Some of you reading this are probably screaming at the computer already.  Mentioning EGR, or any emissions equipment tends to prompt that reaction.  Take a moment to read about how the EGR equipped on the 2011 - 2016 Duramax is NOT going to ruin your engine.  Afterwards, if you still want to send a letter about how terrible emissions equipment is, please address it to your local Congressman.

Below you will find 5 things you probably didn't know about the EGR (exhaust gas re-circulation).  Including  how it is different than previous models, why it works well, and a few other note worthy facts.

A few things you've heard people say about the EGR that are NOT true about the LML EGR system:

  • "They dump dirty exhaust back into your engine."
  • "The EGR will gum up and fail constantly"
  • "Deleting it will get you better fuel mileage."
